Combat Messages
  • Regular messages:
<name> repeatedly stings your opponent, doing Z damage.
<name> produces a small amount of royal jelly, and feeds it to you intravenously. Feel the burn!
    HPYou lose 1 hit point.
    You gain Y + X Muscleboundness.
  • With lucky Tam O'Shanter equipped:
<name> stings your slain foe's wallet and shakes loose some more meat.
  • With miniature gravy-covered maypole equipped:
<name> buzzes and swoops around the maypole.
  • With wax lips equipped:
<name> smiles predatorially with his wax lips.

Arena Messages

  • When entered in a game of Hide and Seek:
<name> buzzes too loudly to stay hidden very well.

Notes

  • The damage done in an attack, Z, ranges from 1 to weight/2.
  • In the Muscle gain formula, Y is the number of Muscle substats you would normally have gained, while the bonus value X is between 1 and ceiling(weight/4).
  • The bonus stat gain does not appear as a separate line, but is rolled into your normal stat gain information at the bottom of the combat.
  • The bee does not feed you jelly every battle; this ability triggers only some of the time, and only at the end of combat. Activation seems to occur about 1/3 of the time.
  • The bee also attacks in combat approximately 1/3 of the time, regardless of its weight.

References

  • ASCII, which is used in the haiku as a replacement for "ask," is a character set and a character encoding based on the Roman alphabet as used in modern English. The phonetic pronunciation of "ASCII" is "ASK-ee."
  • "ASCII and ye shall receive" refers to John 16:24 "...ask, and ye shall receive..."
  • This familiar, its art (a lowercase "a"), and the royal jelly are references to the game NetHack, in which the monster class "insects" are represented by lowercase "a"s.
