Electron Submarine You're fighting an Electron Submarine

We used to all live in this thing, you know, but now it's developed a thirst for vengeance and a really bad attitude. And since it's currently not underwater, it's technically a supermarine. It's definitely not friends with anyone on board.

Hit Message(s):

It slices you with its electron propellor, making you dance. You start to burn up, doing the electron dance. Ouch! Ugh! Argh! Oof! Ouch! Oof! Ooh! Ow! Ooh! Eek!

It smacks you with its gigantic rudder. On the whole, you'd rudder it didn't do that. Ugh! Argh! Ow! Ow! Ooh! Oof! Ooh! Eek! Eek! Ow!

It smashes you with one of the many levers sticking out one of its sides, which pulls you across the floor. Looks like you're a born lever-pullee. Argh! Argh! Oof! Oof! Ugh! Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! Ow! Ooh!

You set off a photoprotoneutron torpedo. It emits a series of beeping noises, then flies toward the submarine. There's a whiff of ozone, a flash of light, and the submarine vanishes. Damn, the torpedo's really useful.
You gain 40 <substat>.

Occurs at The Sorceress' Tower (The Stairs).

Notes

  • This monster's combat weakness is the photoprotoneutron torpedo.
  • If you lose, you will receive a hint as to which item to use.
    • First hint: Looks like you need something to submerge that submarine -- permanently.
    • Second hint: Must be something you can use to batten that thing's hatches once and for all.
    • Third hint: How well-versed are you in maritime weapons of war?
    • Fourth hint: Have you got any depth-charges? No? Hmm.
    • Fifth hint: A photoprotoneutron torpedo from the Penultimate Fantasy Airship should sink this thing.

References

  • The monster description refers to the 1966 song "Yellow Submarine" by The Beatles: "We all live in a yellow submarine / And our friends are all aboard."
  • "You're a born lever-pullee" refers to the Beatles animated movie also titled Yellow Submarine in which Ringo says "I can't help it. I'm a born lever-puller," a pun on the word "Liverpooler."
  • The combat text is a reference to the 1984 song "Neutron Dance" by the Pointer Sisters: "I'm just burning doin' the neutron dance."
  • "Damn, the torpedo's really useful" is probably a play on Admiral David G. Farragut's famous cry at the Battle of Mobile Bay in 1864, during the American Civil War: "Damn the torpedoes! Full speed ahead!"
  • "A whiff of ozone, a flash of light..." may be a reference to the movie A Christmas Story which contained the line "A flash of sparks, a quick whiff of ozone..."
