Buff

A Buff is an effect which comes from a spell cast by a player on another player (or possibly, themselves). Turtle Tamers, Saucerors, and Accordion Thieves can all learn skills which allows them to cast buffs. Buff duration either decreases each adventure or each round of a fight. Buffs can also be shrugged off if unwanted, by right-clicking on a particular effect icon in the sidebar.

While in ronin or hardcore mode, you cannot receive buffs from any player other than yourself.

It should also be noted that if a player is on another's ignore list, buffs cannot be sent between those players. This also applies to putting oneself on one's ignore list.

Buff Duration

Accordion Thief buff durations are affected by the Accordion used:

Turtle Tamer buff durations are affected by the Totem used:

Sauceror buff durations are affected by the Saucepan used:

To cast the class buffs above, the player must have one of the class buff enablers either equipped or in inventory. When a buff instrument is equipped, the duration of buffs cast are determined by the equipped item. Otherwise, the best instrument in inventory is used.

Buff lengths can additionally be affected by having a jewel-eyed wizard hat in inventory (increases all buffs cast by five turns) or an opera mask equipped (increases AT buff lengths by 40%, item lost). The first opening of a Bag o' Tricks per day will extend the duration of five (randomly chosen) of the player's active effects, including buffs, by three turns each.

The cap to buff duration is the 223-1 adventures (8,388,607). A player may cast over this limit, but any excess turns will be removed at rollover.

12 Astral Shell This is a vastly improved version of the Ghostly Shell skill. It increases the amount of damage absorbed by your (or another player's) hat and pants in combat.
