Worries for Another Day
You tunnel into the next cavern and look around, blinking as your eyes adjust to the light. The light in question is reflecting off of hundreds of intricate, miniature buildings made out of some kind of crystal. On closer inspection, you see scores of tiny green men busily constructing the crystal buildings. The men are all wearing tiny little hard hats, working with tiny little construction equipment -- the whole thing's adorable, and the architecture is breathtaking.
Then a furry pink creature comes bounding up and, as you watch, breaks off one of the delicate flying buttresses and noisily devours it. The little green men sigh and get to work rebuilding the part that's collapsed.
"Wow," you say, "that was pretty rude. Those little guys are working hard to make these beautiful buildings, and you come along and eat them?"
The pink creature blinks at you, nonplussed. "Haven't you ever heard of a symbiotic relationship? These little guys build these things just so we can eat them. If it weren't for them, we'd starve!"
You watch the little green guys erect a crystal scaffold to rebuild the clock tower that the pink creature is munching on. "Well, what do they get out of it? Every day they come back to their job site and all the work they did the previous day is in your stomach. They work and work, and they never get anything out of it but more work."
The pink creature shrugs. "I take it you've never worked an office job."
"What's an office?"
"Never mind. They get job security, dummy! If I stopped eating the buildings, they'd finish the project and then they'd be out of work. Is that what you want? Hundreds of tiny little green men without any way to feed their tiny little green families?"
Huh. You'd never thought of it that way before.
Occurs at Mt. Molehill
Notes
- It is the result of landing on floors 8 through 4 on the third non-combat adventure.
References
- This adventure is a reference to Jim Henson's Fraggle Rock, and the symbiotic relationship between the Fraggles who would eat the Doozers' buildings. In particular, the exchange in this adventure mirrors the events of the episode "The Preachification of Convincing John", in which Mokey, a Fraggle, convinces the others to refrain from eating the Doozers' buildings, and the Doozers run out of space and are forced to move elsewhere.
- In addition, the title of the adventure is also from the theme song.
