WTFa la la?

The death ray self-destructs in a brilliant orange fireball, which illuminates a hidden switch in a dark corner of the room. You race over to the switch and flip it, hoping it isn't the first switch in a tedious and repetitive switch puzzle.

Thankfully, a door slides open next to the switch, you slide through the door, and the door slides shut behind you. The hall you've entered doesn't have any especially interesting design features -- hiveminds aren't well known for interior decorating (unless they're making furniture in Sweden). It's your basic dank, metallic, subtly and disturbingly bio-organic corridor. On close examination, though, you see that the walls are pulsating and changing slowly as you watch; one has extruded what looks like a dull gray tree branch, and another has a smattering of bright red berries. Your mind reels. The cyborgs are decking their halls with boughs of holly?

Since the corridor is deserted, and you're feeling pretty weirded out, you decide you're done exploring the ship for the day. As you turn to leave, though, you trip on something, and see one of the cyborgs has dropped the chin strap from his helmet.

As you exit, the entrance hatch seals shut behind you and the entire ship powers down. Looks like it's going into power-save mode for the night.

Occurs in A Sinister Dodecahedron.

Notes

  • The last paragraph occurred only on the second day of Crimbo (Bor 2).

References

  • The bit about Swedish furniture refers to IKEA, which is not to be confused with philosopher Emanuel Swedenborg.
  • The adventure title refers to the traditional Christmas song "Deck the Halls," which describes decorating the halls with "boughs of holly" as in the adventure description, and contains repeated lines of "Fa la la la la, la la la la."
