The Sorceress' Angry Goat

If this is the first of her familiars you face:

Still out of sight, the sorceress cackles madly.

"Kill the adventurer, my pet!" she shrieks.

If you have equipped a Mosquito weighing at least 20 lbs:

A giant goat comes trip-trapping down the corridor, apparently intending to snip-snap your neck.

<Familiar Name> buzzes around the goat, who is infuriated by an enemy too small to headbutt. The goat runs around in circles (runs around in circles, runs around in) until <Familiar Name> skewers him and drains him drier than a physics textbook.

You move further into the tower, while huge chunks of stone fall from the walls for no good reason.

If you have equipped a Mosquito weighing less than 20 lbs:

A giant goat comes trip-trapping down the corridor, apparently intending to snip-snap your neck.

<Familiar Name> buzzes around the goat, who is infuriated by an enemy too small to headbutt. The goat runs around in circles (runs around in circles, runs around in) until <Familiar Name> skewers him and starts a-drinkin'. Unfortunately, <Familiar Name> can't hold enough blood to knock him all the way out and collapses with a bulging little mosquito belly.

Disappointed by your failure, you stomp off in a huff, and stub your toe. Really hard.

You lose 50 hit points.

If you do not have a Mosquito equipped:

A giant goat comes trip-trapping down the corridor, apparently intending to snip-snap your neck.

<Familiar Name> butts heads with the goat, skillfully avoids his attacks, but can't seem to make a dent in the goat's thick hide. <Familiar Name> exhausts itself without even bruising the goat and gets knocked out by one fierce headbutt.

Disappointed by your failure, you stomp off in a huff, and stub your toe. Really hard.

You lose 50 hit points.

If you do not have any familiar equipped:

A giant goat comes trip-trapping down the corridor, apparently intending to snip-snap your neck.

• If you are damaged to 0 HP by this creature, you will be Beaten Up for 4 adventures, instead of the usual 3.

• "Trip-trapping" and "snip-snap" are references to Three Billy Goats Gruff, a famous fairy tale of Scandinavian origin.
• In the encounter texts, "The goat runs around in circles (runs around in circles, runs around in)", alludes to the song "Circles" by Soul Coughing. Lyrics include "I don't need to walk around in circles / walk around in circles, / walk around in circles, / walk around in".
