The Guy Who Carves Driftwood Animals
The Guy Who Carves Driftwood Animals

Wood-shavings crunch beneath your feet as you step into a small hut. The walls are lined with shelves displaying dozens, if not hundreds, of little animal-like shapes roughly carved out of wood. On the floor below them, you see shovels, rakes, and other gardening tools that have been welded together and painted to sort of look like birds.

You cannot imagine any sane person wanting any of these things. The only conversation they could possibly start would be "What the hell is wrong with you?"

A hobo looks up at you from where he sits on a stool in the corner, whittling something that may be a frog, or a duck, or possibly a squirrel. "Howdy!" he says. "Got a special today -- three for one!"

(You currently have N hobo nickels.)

Buy some crap for 10 hobo nickels

The guy takes your nickels, his facial expression a mixture of delight and shock, and directs you to pick three "animals" from the shelves.

  • Otherwise:

You don't have enough nickels. You glumly leave the Marketplace.

Sensibly walk away

The guy seems slightly disappointed, but not at all surprised. He gives you directions out of the marketplace.

Occurs in Hobopolis Town Square as a choice of Math Is Hard.

Notes

  • Neither choosing to walk away does nor being unable to afford trinkets costs an adventure.
