The Great Ess Capay

The Great Ess Capay
The Great Ess Capay

While vacationing at the tropical island, you take every opportunity to enjoy the fine alcoholic beverages the natives make. One in particular is extra-tasty. You watch closely as a bartender makes it from pineapple juice, coconut milk, and plenty of rum. He tops the drink off with a miniature umbrella made out of paper. Most of your drinks don't come with accessories, so this seems somewhat strange. I mean, you've never had a Screwdriver with a tiny trenchcoat on it, or a Salty Dog with a spiked collar...

"What's up with the umbrella?" You ask the bartender.

"Ah, that is a tribute to our god, Ess Capay." He replies. "Legend has it that Ess Capay likes pina coladas and getting caught in the rain. But he does not like watered down pina coladas, so he always carried an umbrella to keep his drink dry. To show our reverence to our god, we always put little umbrellas in our drinks. We believe it persuades Ess Capay to bless each swallow."

You take the umbrella out of the drink and take a sip. It doesn't taste as good! You ask the bartender if you can take some little umbrellas back with you to spread the good news of Ess Capay.

References

  • Both the adventure title (playing on a bad accent) and bartender's description of the legend refer to Rupert Holmes's 1979 song Escape (the Pina Colada Song): "If you like Pina Coladas / and getting caught in the rain."
  • In another instance of a title reference that has nothing to do with the adventure references, The Great Escape is a famous movie.
  • In the film Finding Nemo, Dory pronounces the word "escape" (seen on a submarine hatch wheel) as "ess capay", and remarks, "That's funny, it's spelled just like the word escape."
