A tattoo can be displayed to others through on your character profile and has no in-game effect other than the tattoo contest in PvP. You can select which tattoo to display in your account menu.

Most tattoos are obtained by visiting The Dirt-Walled Hovel of The Pretentious Artist with an outfit on, or by completing ascensions with certain classes, but there are a few exceptions.

Here are all tattoos currently available and how to obtain them:

You get these for being that class. There are currently 6 class tattoos.

Each of these tattoos is obtained by visiting the Pretentious Artist while wearing the appropriate outfit. You must have completed the Pretentious Artist Quest to obtain these tattoos. There are currently 46 outfit tattoos.

There are currently 4 miscellaneous tattoos.

Complete the Pretentious Artist Quest.

Each time you drink a martini there is a one in four chance you'll get this tattoo.

Each time you eat a delicious salad there is a one in four chance you'll get this tattoo.

The Hobo Tattoo is obtained in parts from the Tattoo Shop in the Hobo Marketplace in Hobopolis Town Square.

Furthermore, the Ghost of the English Language used to have a broken image for his tattoo, titled "class8.gif".

Given to members of Teh Club for their participation as the Boys of Loathing Calendar and Girls of Loathing Calendar at the KOL Con III Costume Party.

Acquired by Seventh (#363053) by being the first to summon Ak'gyxoth.

• When the Yendorian Finery outfit was first introduced, Jick took a while to implement its tattoo. Until he did this, the generic message The Pretentious Artist would give for the outfit was:

Jick forgot to make a tattoo for this outfit. Give it a few days.

• Users who complete a Hardcore Oxygenarian ascension will only collect the "super sparkling" tattoo — the Hardcore "sparkling" tattoos can only be earned by completing a non-Oxygenarian ascension.
  • Getting a "sparkling" tattoo before White Wednesday, and then visiting the tattoo page afterwards gave that tattoo and all tattoos less sparkling.
• Jick has announced that he will no longer give out custom in-game tattoos for getting a real-life kol tattoo. Contrary to the previous statement, he has since given Spo a custom in-game Bonerdagon tattoo in celebration of his real-life Bonerdagon tattoo.
• The number of tattoos collected contributes to the Collector's Score and is mentioned in the other accomplishments section of your Quest Log. Updates to the Hobo Tattoo do not count as additional tattoos in the Quest Log.
