Talk:Ultra Rares
From TheKolWiki
... I believe I actually just encountered a new ultra rare. Sadly, force of habit caused me to attack before jotting down the intro text for it. As is, all I have is the location (haunted bathroom), name (1 mutant rattlesnake), image ([1]), two damage messages (It opens its jaws, extends its second set of jaws, and bites you in the groin.) (It unhinges its jaw and swallows your leg up to the knee. Fortunately, it chokes and has to spit it back out.) and the fact that it can give you 10 turns of Really Quite Poisoned. All kinds of weird circumstances at play here, so the best I can say stat wise is that 19 muscle isn't enough to hit it.-- Googleshng 1:13, 27 October 2008 (EDT)
- It's a new random encounter on Halloween. They scale to your stats. You can expect to see one once every thirty turns or so. --TechSmurf 05:17, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
I thought the incredibly dense meat gem dropped in the Cobb's Knob Treasury... can anyone confirm or deny? --jin 11:01, 30 May 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
Hmmm... just ascended and started over hardcore. As a level 2 seal-clubber, walked into the spooky forest and got hit by Baiowulf for 27. A consolation-ribbon holder is me! Anyway, it should probably be mentioned somewhere that the stats of the monsters don't scale. Gront 02:37, 7 February 2007 (CST)
Xenophobe on the Jick and Skullhead show Jun 7, 2007: "So you meant for [ultra-rares] to drop 2-4 times for every player for every day?"
I take this to mean that, currently, 2-4 ultra-rares drop every day through the entire kingdom.--Yiab 16:00, 9 June 2007 (CDT)
Note, the Crazy Bastard does scale, as i am a level 8 disco bandit, and i had full clockwork with two clockwork crossbows, and it took me three hits to kill him. total HP taken from him was 43. Also gained the sword, which was pleasant--Brandonmarlo 07:27, 15 July 2007 (CDT)
Can an ultra rare be pickpocketed?--Zolar the czakl 16:21, 29 September 2007 (CDT)
- As far as I know no it can't since the monster always gets the jump on you. --Chunky_boo 23:51, 29 September 2007 (CDT)
- They cannot be pickpocketed, or at least, that's what Jick said on a raido show near to when pickpocketing rolled out (don't remember the exact date). IIRC, he gave two reasons: first, they have an initiave that no player could be able to beat, second, the game has them marked as boss monsters and bosses are immune to pickpocket. --CheezyBob 13:02, 30 September 2007 (CDT)
Percentace of chance anyone....?
Does anyone know the percentage of chance you have of finding an ultra rare monster out of 100%?
- There is no percentage chance. --sl1me 22:27, 21 August 2007 (CDT)
- about the 2-4 times a day thing, back in the old days, each player could acquire one of each ultra-rare within a month of farming at each location (and this was when hell ramens were the best food (at a decent price ~10k meat) around)--Earth 22:56, 21 August 2007 (CDT)
New Ultrarare?
Jick announced on one of his radio shows that Xenophobe was putting in a new ultra-rare. The most recent show (Oct. 25) I, Duffkiligan, asked if anyone had gotten it. He said "Yes, many people have gotten it but it has not been finished because everyone was on KoLMafia....
So what is it? I'm assuming it's in a low-level starting area since that's where they all are.
Maybe a quest-required place as well? Any speculation on what it is? --Duff 09:26, 27 October 2007 (CDT)
- Probably an outright joke - if there was a new ultrarare and KoLmafia did encounter it, it would immediately stop adventuring and wait for further input from the user. --Quietust (t|c) 12:29, 27 October 2007 (CDT)
In case anyone missed it, the ultra-rare that Jick is referring to is the Dallas Dynasty Falcon Crest shield, dropped in the area that everyone used to farm before they nerfed it, the Icy Peak. There is also the tiny plastic Naughty Sorceress, which you can only get from a Spooky Surprise Egg. I'm kind of wondering why they felt that superhuman resistance to everything was good enough for an UR, given that you can do the same thing with a battered hubcap, bat-ass leather jacket, and Astral Shell, and that only myst classes can get the full benefit of it. Ponder Stibbons 09:56, *31 October 2007 (CDT)
- You realize this is SUPERHUMAN resistance to all elements. Like what you get in a single element for ten turns from the SPF 451 Lip Balm, Bottle of Antifreeze, Donkey Flipboook, or other semi-rare consumables. With this equipped, on ANY class, your elemental resistance, to ALL elements, becomes 90%. That's worth an UR because it's 5 semirares all taking place simultaneously, all the time, and without being consumed. Practically, I guess it's most pertinent for basement divers, who are often forced to spend a lot of meat on the semirare Superhuman resistance items to pass the resistance tests. Of course, it's a lot cheaper to buy the semi-rares, but if you're lucky enough to find this... --Wildfire393 10:04, 31 October 2007 (CDT)
- It should be clarified that the ONLY ways you can achieve superhuman elemental resistance is through either this new ultra-rare or the semi-rare consumables. Just sayin'. --Spleenmaster 15:04, 31 October 2007 (CDT)
- Staff of the Grand Flambé gives superhuman elemental resistance. Don't confuse superhuman (+40% resistance) with maximal (90% resistance).--QuantumNightmare 16:17, 31 October 2007 (CDT)
- Yes, to one element only. It would be like having 4 more chef staffs, and 4 more hands! ;) Well worth it on an ultra-rare, imo. -MarcyRoni 20:24, 31 October 2007 (CDT)
- I agree it's worth an ultra-rare but in my opinion it's the weakest of all of the ultra-rares. Something like this should have been put in the accessory slot, again my own opinion. --Chunky_boo 20:29, 31 October 2007 (CDT)
- You really think it's weaker than the crazy bastard sword? I mean, I don't want to be cruel to an ultra-rare, but it seems pretty useless for anyone who isn't at the very start of their KoL adventure. And those people can't afford it.--HikaruYami 20:39, 6 December 2007 (CST)
- The recent edit to the Ultra Rare page says that someone heard Jick on a radio show say that there are seven undiscovered Ultra Rares. He has been known to give the same answer repeatedly when asked about how many undiscovered trophies there are. I think he may just be saying seven about the Ultra Rares too and that the speculation about this may need to come off the main page or be labeled as such. Misstrain 14:32, 14 March 2008 (CDT)
tiny plastic Naughty Sorceress
I think that the tiny plastic Naughty Sorceress belongs on the list. It's marked as UR, as opposed to many of the other tiny plastics, which are simply Rare. Granted, the mechanic for receiving it differs from the other URs. But I don't think this should exclude it from the list. So why was it removed? -- Zucker 03:16, 2 November 2007 (CDT)
Misc
Does anyone know the stats for the ultra-rare monsters? I notice they tend to appear in lower levels, but there're no stats for (apparently) any of them. Do we even have an idea? Maybe like 10+ than the others in the area? - Asinine 14:47, 21 July 2008 (CDT)
