Is there any data on the frequency of traps tripping rather than stat boosting? --DirkDiggler 04:42, 1 May 2006 (CDT)

Well, for one thing, I don't think I've ever seen the puzzle trap or the poison gas trap actually fire, I've avoided them every single time. --Jimfromtx 04:01, 8 July 2006 (CDT)

I just got a 10 leaf clover adventureing here. I don't know if this happened before. it was on the "Arrowed!" adventure. Here's the screenshot. —Preceding unsigned comment added by ODST (talkcontribs) on 14:12, 14 September 2008

Jokes

Has anyone noticed the Harry Potter joke? When you do the poison gas trap, it says that you tried to survive by eating some stupid plant. In Harry Potter: Goblet of Fire, Harry eats a plant, that allows him to survive underwater without breathing!

--AtomicTroop 04:18, 2 January 2007 (CST)

  • eating some kind of stupid plant is a pretty standard way of escaping bad consequences in fantasy stuff, so that's not the reference. besides, jk rowling never had an original thought in her life. which is not to say there is no genius in stitching together other people's work so entertainingly. --Evilkolbot 06:47, 2 January 2007 (CST)
  • The plant joke is from A Wrinkle In Time, not Harry Potter...

Exact Substat Gain Formula

An (unascended) alt visited the Temple today, and I collected some numbers on the exact amount of +substats:

Stat Total Gain Gain - 2 * Stat
18 41 +5
13 29 +3
19 47 +9
20 46 +6
14 32 +4
15 32 +2
16 40 +8
23 46 +0
17 42 +8
19 38 +0
20 47 +7
21 48 +6

The average gain is 4.83. Based on these numbers I believe the formula for Hidden Temple substat gain is (2X + (0-9), max 50), where X is the stat being boosted. This is the same as the formula for Battlefield substat gain.

Admittedly a larger sample would be helpful.

If people feel this is reasonable, I will update the Hidden Temple and Hidden Temple Strategy wiki pages. --PlatypusNinja 22:10, 9 June 2007 (CDT)

Buffed or unbuffed stats? --MagiNinjA (#1036193) (t|c) 00:03, 10 June 2007 (CDT)

The stats I listed were unbuffed. I don't believe there are any scaling noncombats for which buffed stats are relevant. --PlatypusNinja 01:40, 11 June 2007 (CDT)

  • This data is a great start, but you'll need a much larger sample size to find the exact formula. I've been working on scaling noncombats in other locations, and a sample size of a couple hundred is usually needed for accuracy. For instance, can you tell apart between 2x+(0-9) and 2x to 2.5x yet?--QuantumNightmare 00:22, 10 June 2007 (CDT)

You're right, I cannot tell those apart.

I agree: getting a sample size of a couple hundred would be awesome. The trouble is that I could get maybe 30-40 data points per ascension at most... --PlatypusNinja 01:40, 11 June 2007 (CDT)

I have a base moxie of 0 from eating Lord of the Flies fries, and I earned 1 Roughishness from the arrow trap, so it can go from 1-50, not 2-50, and it is definately affected by that stat, not your main stat.--Larryboy 08:04, 31 July 2008 (CDT)

Change?

I'm gaining 75 substats today, on the Moxie-gaining adventures. Has the Temple been changed, or is this caused by something else? --Tannkrem 10:33, 19 June 2007 (CDT)

I've heard of them, but didn't realise this was one. :-) --Tannkrem 13:11, 19 June 2007 (CDT)

I don't know if it's a glitch or otherwise, but I was spontaneoulsy catapaulted into the Violet Fog while wandering the Temple (Last Adventure link read An Incredibly Strange Place: Great Trip). While I have a Badger, I haven't touched a 'shroom in days... honest! Whod99 12:31, 27 June 2007 (CDT)

  • I'm aware this is a very late reply, but this note is on the Violet Fog page: "Sufficient usage of astral mushrooms will cause random flashbacks after an indeterminate period of time (often spanning across multiple ascensions), causing the player to abruptly return to the Violet Fog while adventuring normally."--Emtu 16:17, 21 January 2008 (CST)

Legends of the Hidden Temple

Hey, I had put a mention in here about this location's name being a reference to Legends of the Hidden Temple, and it was taken down. Generally, when people take down the things I've put onto wikis, it means I was wrong - I'd just like to know why. -Captain Video 17:17, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

  • "common trope" was the reason, and it looks to me a pretty good one. the area name itself is three words, that's it. a great many things have hidden temples in them, and to be a reference it has to have more than just the words themselves. a quick scan of the wiki page suggests that this doesn't even come close. there's no moat, no steps, no silver monkey. just a hidden temple. not good enough. sorry, and please don't let it discourage you. happy wikiing. --Evilkolbot 17:51, 14 August 2009 (UTC)
    • Thanks, that's cool. This game needs a silver monkey, though. -Captain Video 04:03, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
