Is anyone else having trouble getting into Xylpher's variant? It won't load for me.--Golden cow2 14:03, 17 December 2006 (CST)
Vladjimir has made a very good chart for the arena, I don't know if the link should be added to the article or not. Familiar Strenghts --NitraMo 03:59, 26 Jun 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
There's a strange familiar icon/name in the list on The Rye's arena calculator. Is this "Bruno" some sort of reference or in-joke, or an actual familiar of some kind?--Leicontis 08:17, 9 February 2008 (CST)
Arena advantages and disadvantages
(Usually, the above-mentioned 18-20 difference seems absurdly wrong. In truth, most tests seem to put it at closer to a 3-5 pound difference, using a 1 lb. versus a 5 lb., and still losing by one or two every time. --Ariamaki)
(I don't know who inserted the above paragraph, but my experience agrees with the 18-20 pound difference. For example, my 10 lb barrrnacle is currently pwning a 28 lb cocoabo in the obstacle course by enough of a gap to get only 2 kills. --balam)
(I don't think either one is the case. In my experiences, the handicap seems to decrease their effectiveness by a percentage, not a flat number of pounds. This is probably also why a 5 lb. mentioned above got a 3-5 pound handicap, while the aforementioned 25 lb. GPOAS got an 18-20 pound handicap. --Poochy)
(The gap seems to be really strange. I fought my level 15 sabre-toothed lime against a level 3 grue and I only won 50% of the time. Could this possibly be because it's impossible to go below level 1 in familiar levels therefore my lime and Susie's grue were the same level? --Kookie 18:17, 27 November 2005 (Central Standard Time))
It's not addressed in the main article, but what are the effects of having a favoured event? Might be useful information when you need to level up that 1-lb barrrnacle and the average house familiar is 20lbs that particular day.. Qaianna 13:58, 8 August 2007 (CDT)
Two Mosquitos (or other) in the Arena at once
A change has been made to the Arena so that now there can be, for example, two mosquitoes in the Arena at the same time. I believe this is new, in my 16 months of playing I've nevr heard of it before. Also, I don't know how this would fit into the article itself, but it's an intresting bit of info and this page is here to talk about the Arena. --Scorpios 05:03, 5 April 2006 (CDT)
- i don't think it's a change, just unlikely enough that you may not have seen it before. do you arena every day? i remember from the beginning, when i was trying to make money off meatcar models i used to arena a lot and i'm sure i got two the same several times. of course, my memory is rubbish, but there must be some ocd spade out there who's kept lists of every set of house familiars to prove me right. or wrong. ok, more likely wrong. --Evilkolbot 06:29, 5 April 2006 (CDT)
Familiar vs itself
I don't know how or if this could be confirmed, but I have been entering my Spooky Pirate Skeleton against the House's Spooky Pirate Skeleton for two days in a row, just on the one turn when I am going to get equipment, and I have gotten a blundarrrbus for at least 20 turns in a row now. I have been doing ultimate cage match, and my SPS is 30 pounds, the Arena's is only 9 (i'm putting him in there for the equipment to sell, not the exp.) Is it possible that winning a cage match against the same type of familiar gets you familiar-specific equipment every time? (I tried a scavenger hunt and got a lead necklace, so it may be just with cage match)
--darkosmo 10:47, 23 March 2007 (CDT)
...okay, I just got my first lead necklace from doing a cage match between the two spooky pirate skeletons, but it was the first time in about 30 that i didn't receive a blundarrrbus. it was my 1000th arena win, if that might have anything to do with it. i think it must at least greatly increase the chances of familiar-specific equipment to do it that way though, otherwise so many in a row must be some sort of record and i must be incredibly lucky!
--darkosmo 21:09, 23 March 2007 (CDT)
Lead Necklace
The page currently lists Lead necklace as both a one in four chance and every 50 wins. Is the latter confirmed?
--Harik 22:12, 21 June 2006 (CDT)
- Absolutely not. On my most recent run, for example, I received the necklace on my 10th win, and a familiar-specific item on my 50th win. --Baltar 16:40, 24 June 2006 (CDT)
Ascension
When you ascend, and your profile has familiar percentages, do arena turns count?--Duty 16:22, 12 December 2006 (CST)
maximizing
I changed the maximizing section quite a bit, emphasizing what the difference in weights need to be for maximal experience, instead of how to change your familiar's weight, which is already covered on familiar weight. This I think will be slightly more helpful...I hope.--Foggy 11:55, 10 April 2008 (CDT)
Familiar weights and equipment in the Arena
I was using The Rye's arena calculator and was puzzled when my familiar kept losing when the calculator showed that he had a 0% chance of losing at his weight. Rating him at his 'true' weight (ie, without his equipment) gave figures much more closely matching what I observed. So: does the Arena discount weight gained from equipment (and, presumably, effects, though I haven't been able to test that)? and, if so, should there be something on the Wiki page for the Arena to point this out for the unwary? --Kay Dekker 14:58, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
