Drop Mechanic
This claims to drop at The Poop Deck, has anyone actually gotten one? --CheezyBob 02:47, 6 December 2007 (CST)
- not everything that drops rarely is ultra-rare. ultra-rare's pretty danm rare. are you absolutely sure it's using the ultra-rare mechanic? it's not animated, and riff or skully would be entirely cruel to make something that drops so infrequently craftable. what is your proof? --Evilkolbot 07:04, 6 December 2007 (CST)
- Umm... it is animated - watch the graphic. And it can be crafted into ridiculously powerful items. That's not proof, but it's pretty good odds. --Bob452 07:30, 6 December 2007 (CST)
The other Virgin Booty items appear to be animated as well, but I would agree that the jewelry that results are too powerful to not be ultra-rare.
Chances are its a belowdecks pirate (since it follows the gaudy pirate), and following the g-y theme, would probably drop from a gay pirate.--Foggy 07:34, 6 December 2007 (CST)
- ... O.O.... err... (that's all) -MarcyRoni
Since the shimmering rainbow sand is also animated, and that item comes from booty hunting on the open ocean, I think it's very unlikely this is a traditional ultra-rare. It will probably be a very rare result from the ocean, but not an "ultra-rare." --Prestige 08:31, 6 December 2007 (CST)
- In all likelihood, the "rainbow sand" location returns a pearl maybe once (or less) per day. Likely the same for the island with the tiki idol and altar fragment. --Quietust (t|c) 08:40, 6 December 2007 (CST)
- yup, everything described here and elsewhere points to this being ultra-rare. perhaps, excursine, it's time to find out if the fortune cookie step counter is the same as the ultra-rare one... --Evilkolbot 13:26, 6 December 2007 (CST)
- Even though the amazingness of the item does seem like it belongs to an ultra-rare category, it's almost definitely a ship adventure, meaning it can't possibly follow the base ultra-rare mechanic. In my opinion, you'd have to get somewhat lucky and combine a semirare adventure with the ship adventure, then select the right coordinates (different than rainbow sand, which might surprise people) assuming you even managed that much. The coordinates would be preset per ascension, but would be different for each person, and you could only get 1 per ascension. But really, I'm just saying how I would've programmed it. Jick and Skully are more creative.... so it might be a while before we find out anything definite or semi-definite. On a more item-discussion note, wouldn't it be so epic to have all 3 pearl items with you all the time~ --HikaruYami 20:08, 6 December 2007 (CST)
- Maybe it only drops for characters at high enough level to use it. --User:Glebs 22:42, 6 December 2007 (PST)
- Okay, I'll be totally honest - if this is an ultra-rare drop, it's probably the worst UR in the game. None of the jewellry can be equipped until level 15. IMHO, it's a semi-rare from the Virgin Booty adventure. Note that the shimmering sand, alter fragments and tiki idol are all animated as well, and they certainly aren't URs.--Jekostas 03:13, 7 December 2007 (CST)
- Hm, don't forget it can be an invaluable asset for basement divers. --Nappa 05:00, 7 December 2007 (CST)
- Not everyone plays HC, Jeko. The items this can be smithed into are AMAZINGLY powerful, despite their high level requirements. The basement divers will wet themselves over them. Though I have to admit, they aren't 'animated', they are just 'sparkly'. Most true URs are 'animated'.
Could this work on a similar mechanic to Lucky/spooky surprise eggs? i.e. the pearl is a rare or ultra-rare result of opening a gilded/ornate/cursed chest? --The duke of doi tung 05:26, 7 December 2007 (CST)
I guess it's not as good as (some of) the ultra rares we know of, but in terms of absolute (not percentage, like the Baio) stat increases, these things rival a Mr. A, but with either 200 bonus damage or great elemental resistance. They're probably good enough to be conventional ultra rares, except for the highest-in-the-game stat requirement.
If I go treasuarrrrr hunting any time soon, maybe I'll check the rainbow sand coordinates for an alternate drop.

BShanahan14rulz (#789350) used to have one of these in his Display Case, and is now wearing a Rainbow Pearl Ring. Might want to contact him about how he got it, yes? --Unsure 11:49, 8 December 2007 (CST)
I have one. It didn't drop from opening a chest. I just entered in coordinates, (134,30) and found the pearl. Subsequent adventures yielded only Rainbow Shimmering Sand.--snugglekitten 9:38 9 December 2007 (PST)
Possible Reference
I'm wondering if this is a reference to the Rainbow Shell item from Chrono Trigger. Jick was playing through that game a few months ago, the Rainbow Shell is found on an island in the game, and it can be crafted into a couple items near the end of the game. --Shoptroll 11:19, 7 December 2007 (CST)
Ten Leaf Clover and other theories
I tried to use a ten leaf clover while adventuring in a shimmering rainbow sand spot (134,30) and got nothing, I've been farming that same spot to test a theory that shimmering rainbow sand drops at the same place. Kind of like a spooky hockey mask and sleeping. Nothing yet, I've tried 10 times. I'll keep you guys posted. --Emperornortonii 6:43, 11 December 2007 (CST)
- I guarantee that Pearls drop for a first-time (game-wide) visit to a rainbow island, and only sand drops at that location thereafter. While it might be possible for more pearls to drop in the future, the mechanic by which they might drop is unknown, as no one has reported finding a 12th pearl (to the best of my knowledge, there are 11 in the game). Altars
Has anyone tried to use a pearl at one of the altars in the jungle? I know that the strange stone spheres were finally recognized (though to no special effect), but what about the pearls? They're related to all elements, so they *should* react properly to the elementally aligned altars, right? --Drewbear 13:13, 1 January 2008 (CST)
Pulverize?
Has anyone tried to pulverize these things? Just a random thought.--WTF616 07:55, 3 January 2008 (CST)
- They're not equipment, thus cannot be pulverized. --Flargen 08:01, 3 January 2008 (CST)
- I suspect he was referring to attempting to pulverize the jewelry made from these. --Quietust (t|c) 08:39, 3 January 2008 (CST)
how about using the sand to malus into rainbow nuggets and then into additional pearls--Qbr12 21:18, 16 March 2008 (CDT)
Maybe it's just paranoid old me, but I wonder how smashbot got two of them, perhaps smashing something prismatic will ultra-rarely give another one? Has it been unambiguously stated that there is no way to get one other than to have gotten one from the rainbow islands? or is that just us thinking that?--MindlessGames 00:52, 21 March 2008 (CDT)
- Those pearls belong to me (mtfns (#1352033)), being kept by smashbot while I'm in hardcore. Both were found on the open seas in the way detailed elsewhere on the wiki. --Mtfns 16:55, 22 March 2008 (CDT)
- Bugger! I thought that would've been a great mechanic! --Nossidge 19:06, 22 March 2008 (CDT)
