Image for familiar equipment is
psychedelic bubble wand
This is a wand that blows bubbles of unusual shapes, colors, and sizes. It's, like, so trippy, man.
Type: familiar equipment Selling Price: 75 Meat.
From the drawing/description, seems like a pretty obvious reference to the Grateful Dead "dancing bear". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grateful_Dead#Artwork Douglas Hossenfeffer 21:47, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
I swear that familiar was all-lowercase in the description box when I looked at it this morning... --GalenKemensen 22:22, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
- Sometimes Jcik maeks teh tpyo nad screws up teh wiki. Most people copy & paste, so it probably was lowercase. I'm convinced TPTB do this on purpose to make maintaining the Wiki as difficult as possible. --BagatelleT/C 23:05, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, I figured as much. It confused me enough already yesterday when the familiar wasn't following the in-game convention, never mind when it changed... Cheers. --GalenKemensen 08:03, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
I thought the bear was just walking à la the Grateful Dead bear at first glance, but then realised the animation was wrong for that: now he seems to be 'hopping' along, bouncing the front foot up and down. It's ringing a bell from somewhere but I can't place it for the life of me (my head keeps bringing up the Blues Brothers or maybe R&B in general, no idea whether that's right). Help, anyone? --GalenKemensen 08:03, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
- Are you suggestingit's not the Grateful Dead bear then? I'm not saying you're wrong or right, I'm more curious. The haiku description and it's combat messages seem to me that it's related to the Grateful Dead, at least in my opinion. Perhaps the animation was done that way cause it was easier, or maybe it is a throwback to something else. --esko 22:29, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
Possible Weakness in The Cake-Shaped Arena
My Psychedelic Bear 13 lbs. and I put him up against an 8 lb Sabre Toothed Lime Cub in an Ultimate Cage Match and lost. Probably needs more verification. --Choujinzoku 04:46, 9 October 2008 (UTC)
- That's not what a weakness is. You get a special message in addition to the usual event result text when you enter a familiar in one of his "weak" events. --Flargen 05:00, 9 October 2008 (UTC)
No, the special message is for "unable to perform". Weakness just means you perform as though your weight were 3 less than it actually is (it just feels wrong to use "fewer" regarding weight, even though KoL weights are integers). However, since the lime is strong in that event it is possible for an average or weak familiar to lose with those weights. I have kept records while getting my bubble wand, as follows:
7lb bear entered in Hide and Seek had times of 33 and 34 seconds, so must be weak.
7lb bear entered in Scavenger Hunt found 21 items, so must be strong.
8lb bear entered in Obstacle Course had times of 191, 192 and 193 seconds, so must be average. --Campboy 17:26, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
