When I used this with my Dandy Lion, the effect of this item appeared before the familiar's natural abilities, but I don't recall seeing one trigger without the other. Like the Whelp, this item restores both HP and MP, whether you need both or not; the Lion only restores what you need. --Emtu 02:06, 1 February 2008 (CST)

They fire independently. I've had the Lion go without the magazine, the magazine without the Lion, both, and neither. --Gunslinger 11:45, 1 February 2008 (CST)

If they're using the standard familiar formula, then this should only fire on combats -- can anybody confirm that? If it happens to fire on non-combats, that would rock! --RobN 16:59, 1 February 2008 (CST)
