Talk:Misshapen Animal Skeleton

From TheKolWiki

I realize this is probably the wrong place to put all this info, but I don't know where else to put it for people to use to figure out the stats and all. I also realize I'm probably using the spooky damage template wrong, but I didn't know how else to get the right coloration for the elemental damage. --Amokk 04:34, 8 September 2006 (CDT)

<name> howls mournfully. Your opponent shudders, and, frankly, you're a little creeped out yourself.

<name> claws, claws, and bites your opponent for 31 (Spooky+46) damage.

<name> claws, claws, and bites your opponent for 41 (Spooky+46) damage.

<name> claws, claws, and bites your opponent for 36 (Spooky+50) damage.

<name> claws, claws, and bites your opponent for 38 (Spooky+54) damage.

<name> claws, claws, and bites your opponent for 32 (Spooky+62) damage.

<name> claws, claws, and bites your opponent for 29 (Spooky+66) damage.

<name> claws, claws, and bites your opponent for 24 (Spooky+74) damage.

<name> claws, claws, and bites your opponent for 28 (Spooky+80) damage.

All with a 35 pound (after eating the equipment) Comma Chameleon.--Amokk 04:23, 8 September 2006 (CDT) http://kol.coldfront.net/thekolwiki/index.php?title=Talk:Misshapen_Animal_Skeleton&action=edit

claw, claw, bite is possibly in reference to the 70s/80s D&D's dragons, whose attacks were typically listed in the manual as claw/claw/bite. while i don't know if this holds true for AD&D 1st Edition, i do know that 2nd Edition and beyond tended to give the dragons additional attacks (tail whip, wing buffet, etc). Cookie3 10:01, 8 September 2006 (CDT)

Uhh... claw claw bite is pretty much the standard monster natural attack package, not really specific to dragons. --Veistran 11:26, 8 September 2006 (CDT)

This thing probably won't be the Item of the Month for October, as the Chameleon doesn't pick up IotM familiar items. However, it also technically shouldn't be picking up items from "Nonexistant" familiars, so it's pretty much just conjecture. - Mojotech

I'll put these here, as I'm not sure about the policy on spoilers. Use text(if you have all parts): You pick up the animal skull, and start hooking other bones to it. It would be easier if there were instructions, Tab A into Slot B, or something... eventually, though, you manage to produce a fully-assembled animal skeleton. If you can call something made out of random cat, monkey, and hamster bones "fully-assembled". The magic that had previously animated the animals kicks back in, and it stands up shakily and looks at you. "Graaangh?" --Keiron 02:36, 20 September 2006 (CDT)

Use of item: You put the misshapen animal skeleton in your Familiar-Gro™ Terrarium.

It sits down and scratches where its ear used to be with one of its hind legs, making a terrible scraping noise. --Keiron 02:35, 20 September 2006 (CDT)

I started keeping track of what this critter was doing as soon as I got him here are my results from weights 1-6. All are fought in the Goatlet:

Rounds fought (for any statisticians out there): 1 Lb. = 33; 2 Lb. = 55; 3 Lb. = 57; 4 Lb. = 118; 5 Lb. = 91; 6 Lb. = 95

Hit %: 1 Lb. = 42.4; 2 Lb. = 36.4; 3 Lb. = 47.4; 4 Lb. = 26.3; 5 Lb. = 36.3; 6 Lb. = 41.1

Howl % (I didn't think to track this until he got to 4 Lbs.): 4 Lb. = 38.1; 5 Lb. = 25.3; 6 Lb. = 38.9

I'm guessing the sample size just isn't big enough, and that he actually hits a third of the time, howls a third of the time, and misses a third of the time.

The damage range is the same for both spooky and regular damage. The amounts of each don't seem correlated to each other, only to weight.

Minimum Damage: 1 Lb. = 5; 2 Lb. = 5; 3 Lb. = 6; 4 Lb. = 6; 5 Lb. = 7; 6 Lb. = 7

Maximum Damage: 1 Lb. = 8; 2 Lb. = 9; 3 Lb. = 10; 4 Lb. = 11; 5 Lb. = 12; 6 Lb. = 13

So, I think the amount of each type of damage is between a minimum of:

4 + (weight/2), rounded up

and a maximum of:

7 + weight

But, this doesn't quite jive with Amokk's earlier observations. So, either they nerfed him a bit (they said they'd be adjusting things for a while), or the formulae are more complex.

--LfO 10:11, 23 September 2006 (CDT)

Lfo's formula would mean that Amokk's MAS would be doing 22-42 Physical Damage. Indeed it did: it did 24-41 Physical Damage. But Amokk's Spooky Damage ranged from 46-80: exactly twice the damage it should be doing, according to Lfo's formula. So Amokk's MAS must have been fighting Sleaze or Cold Monsters - such as those in The Hole in the Sky or The Icy Peak. Spooky attacks do twice as much damage against those two elements. --User:Jubbers

This is really close to (7+W)*(0.5 .. 1.0), which would correspond with several other formulas in the game that are (something)*(onehalf .. one). Does anybody know whether the distributions are generally flat or bell-shaped within the (onehalf .. one) range? --Jonrock 11:05, 25 September 2006 (CDT)

No strengths/weaknesses?

Is it possible that this has neither strengths nor weaknesses? I mean, my 4lb lost to the 10lb sombrero by 5-6 seconds. It would make sense, if you think about it.--BMoD 18:26, 28 September 2006 (CDT)

Frequency of attacks

So far when I keep attacking with my weapon or land a successful Thrust-Smack or Lunging Thrust-Smack, the Animal Skeleton keeps coming into effect 100%. Can anyone help confirm? --Jewel12345 07:50, 20 April 2007 (CDT)

  • Yeah, so far, it seems to attack/act every round provided you make a successful action, very much like the MechaMech. I assume it'd act the same with the NS, only acting if you use your normal attack or if your skill lands. --Doomsday Forte 16:42, 23 June 2007 (CDT)
    • Actually, I'm only partially right. The MAS seems to be a lot like the Ghost Pickle on a Stick, even down to the damage formula, though it deals two types (and therefore, more damage than the GPoaS even against Spooky-element monsters as it still gets off 1 point of extra damage). This might make the MAS a little better to use against the NS than the GPoaS because it would deal so much more damage and delevel too. --Doomsday Forte 16:51, 23 June 2007 (CDT)

I have a question about this. How often does it miss? A 1/3 chance doesn't seem to be concrete, as my 34lb MAS seems to either howl or attack every round (though I am finishing battles in a single turn so that doesn't really help). I assume the miss rates are the same for the Ghost Pickle, seeing how these are basically the same but the MAS has added Spooky Damage. Is it possible that it misses less as it grows in power? I did a battle in the Miner Shaft area, and he either howled or attacked each round. It's not a great sample size, but if each result has a supposed equal chance, shouldn't I have seen the miss within 16 rounds?

Or, does having its familiar equip on have a secret Targeting Chip-like effect? --Doomsday Forte 18:21, 5 July 2007 (CDT)

Delevelling Testing

As with other delevelling tests, this involved unarmed combat in the Oasis, Worm Wood, and Wine Cellar. (At 30 pounds, I needed to neuter at least half of the damage, as the MAS does so much per round, by fighting spooky-aligned monsters.)

As with the GPoaS, deleveling ranged from 1-floor(weight/3).

  • 12 pounds: 1-4, 9 data points
  • 13 pounds: 1-4, 16 data points
  • 14 pounds: 1-4, 16 data points
  • 15 pounds: 1-5, 26 data points
  • 22 pounds: 1-7, 23 data points
  • 30 pounds: 1-10, 40 data points

Testing was done with a Turtle Tamer, level 24. --Foggy 14:37, 7 November 2007 (CST)

I'm looking at the Bone Golem in the D&D 2nd Edition Monstrous Manual, and the description of its abilities. Primarily, its laugh:

"Once every three rounds, the bone golem may throw back its head and issue a hideous laugh that causes all those who hear it to make fear and horror checks. Those who fail either check are paralyzed and cannot move for 2-12 rounds. Those who fail both checks are instantly stricken dead with fear."

Although it's a slight stretch, I thought it possible that just about the entire familiar may be a referance to this monster, especially considering the picture they've got of it in here. It's probably 95% animal bones with some humanoid bones tossed in. And it is most definately misshapen.--Lijitsu 18:32, 30 August 2009 (UTC)
