Talk:Harold's bell
From TheKolWiki
I just used it on an Empty Suit of Armor, and nothing happened. No use message, no effect, but the bell disappeared from my inventory. Odd. --Jererry 11:48, 18 October 2007 (CDT)
What exactly does this thing do?--Etliay 04:14, 9 July 2007 (CDT)
- Apparently, it gives you one guaranteed "run away". Not terribly useful, since it's usually pretty easy to run away and you have to waste the item in order to figure out what it does, effectively making it useless the first time one completes the quest. --Quietust (t|c) 08:14, 9 July 2007 (CDT)
Hmm... the item # is one number away from the Order of the Silver Wossname for the island war. A possible connection? --jupider 14:04, 9 July 2007 (CDT)
- The use message says it's "the most annoying sound ever." Could this be the theorized third way to start the War? (Not likely at all, but if this does have some special use, it's one-time a run availability makes spading a pain, which actually makes it seem more likely it somehow plays into the medal (Which means it's probably not related at all.))--Galapagos James 17:01, 9 July 2007 (CDT)
- Just i thought ,unless you don't keep them through ascensions, you could save enough up to make you get an ultra rare
- It's a QUEST ITEM. This means that it vanishes upon ascension.--MaskedLihc 06:00, 7 August 2007 (CDT)
List of monsters this bell appears to do nothing special against
does it work on any form of the NS?--Devdogg 12:49, 14 August 2007 (CDT)
Yeah, so I came up with a brilliant idea that would have made my life easier. It failed. Don't use this item in Fernswarthy's basement against the n-dimensional. I really, really hated that disappointment. --Blastphemist 14:57, 9 September 2007 (CDT)
- This makes sense, as Fernswarthy's basement has no normal combat adventures. They're all noncombats, some of which lead to a combat by clicking on the "Toast the Ghost" or "Don't fear the ear" or what-have-you button. --Squi 07:55, 24 September 2007 (CDT)
Didn't work on the Knob Shaft's ghost miners.--Ashamalee 07:39, 17 September 2007 (CDT)
- It's probably not worth confirming each 1-monster zone separately. :) --Starwed 22:30, 17 September 2007 (CDT)
I used it against a Quantum Mechanic as my #2 item with #1 being spices. It showed the graphic but no text.
The article currently says that it doesn't work "against a monster rooted to the ground like the Man-Eating Plant in the Haunted Conservatory." However, I used Creepy Grin on said plant, and it sure as heck ran away. Alas, I cannot test the bell itself as I've already used it this ascension. --Bagatelle 19:17, 27 November 2007 (CST)
- Yeah, I think I totally doubt that claim. I'll check it out with a multi. --TechSmurf 20:17, 27 November 2007 (CST)
- For some reason I forgot to use my bell this run, so tested it against the Man-eating plant, and it worked just like it does for any monster. I don't know whose imagination that one came from. --Prestige 07:26, 22 December 2007 (CST)
Solution
Although, I was getting rat adventures fairly often. After I used the bell, I didn't get another rat adventure for at least 15 turns. Dunno if it means anything though. ColtsScore 04:06, 2 August 2007 (CDT)
- Hey, good eyes! I just tested this, and the bell prevents you from encountering the monster you use it on for about 20 turns. (Tried it on a chef in the kitchens, recieved 20 (!) master chefs in a row.) --Starwed 17:03, 4 August 2007 (CDT)
- Indeed, nice someones figured out what this is useful for. Incidentally, I've used this against both the NS and a beanbat, and neither were affected. --Eugene 05:58, 5 August 2007 (CDT)
Does using this on a bodyguard eliminate the need to fight 3 before fighting the Boss Bat? That might bear some research, although saving 2 turns isn't worth that much...just an interesting idea --Jimfromtx 01:09, 6 September 2007 (CDT)
- Well, I used it on the boss bat and fought 20 bodyguards in a row, so probably. :) But the meat from the bodyguards is so good there are definitely better places to use it. --Starwed 03:35, 6 September 2007 (CDT)
Does it matter if you adventure in another zone after using the bell? For example if you use it on a mad scientist then spend 10 adventures elsewhere, then come back to the lab will you get 20 adventures of very mad or just 10?--Darkness 07:34, 22 October 2007 (CDT)

I was thinking that Harold's Bell may be a reference to the early 20th century American author Harold Bell Wright.--Glbcashley 14:12, 14 April 2008 (CDT)
