Talk:Gender Bender

From TheKolWiki

Having never had surgery before, and having attemtped to get as many as possible since I learned of this trophy, I can reliablly report its "More than 5 sex changes" Further updates as I attempt to earn it.--Rikmach 00:56, 10 March 2006 (CST)

Never hit the sex change before the trophy came out. i had 8 yesterday and 10 more today. i've checked the trophy hut after each one and haven't found it yet.--Yiab 01:32, 10 March 2006 (CST)

Well, there may be another possibility:

This discussion on Radio KoL mentions the Sex Change Skaraoke competition to be held very soon (10th March is final entry date). --Phelyan 04:18, 10 March 2006 (CST)

  • Heh, I doubt ADH's contest has anything to do with this trophy. :P --Ricket 04:42, 10 March 2006 (CST)

Got it today. Notice the edit I made to the page. Unfortunately, I completely forgot to copy the trophy maker text before buying it.--Yiab 01:24, 11 March 2006 (CST)

  • Was it for 30 lifetime changes, or 30 changes in one ascension? -- Old Ned 01:44, 11 March 2006 (CST)
  • I got it in one ascension, but I don't think that the trophy maker mentioned that, so it's probably lifetime.--Yiab 08:42, 11 March 2006 (CST)

I was thinking that a total price could be mentioned/noted on the main article page: 30*500(Sex change cost)+10,000(instalment cost) = 25,000 meat--Animus 22:41, 12 March 2006 (CST)

  • Perhaps some mention could be made of the adventure cost. The sex change is about 1 in 17, which would make, on average, 500 adventures. Or is my statistics as bad as my grammar? --Evilkolbot 06:47, 16 March 2006 (CST)
  • I don't understand why cost is on this page at all. 99 red balloons doesn't have a cost and it's easier to compute. Cost isn't a simple thing. To try for this trophy you might cast anti-combat adventure buffs. This would lower the advetnure cost, but raise the meat cost. I don't think we really want to get into this kind of crazy complexity for this one trophy. --Crowther 10:07, 16 March 2006 (CST)
  • I can understand specifying the Meat cost. I don't see why anything more is needed or even relevant.--A Naked Jew 13:37, 16 March 2006 (CST)
  • on reflection, i have to agree with crowther. there should be some consistency here. either all the trophies have a discussion of their relative cost on them where appropriate, or none. perhaps there could be a tabulated "trophy cost" page for those that are interested. --Evilkolbot 12:12, 20 March 2006 (CST)

I'm surprised no one's added anything about the reference to Futurama.--Littlenicky40 16:06, 16 March 2006 (CST)

  • There isn't one, really. The Futurama usage was ITSELF a reference to an existing term. That's why calling him "The Gender Bender" was funny to begin with.--A Naked Jew 09:59, 17 March 2006 (CST)
  • better leave the futurama reference in, people will keep adding it anyway. --Evilkolbot 04:06, 2 April 2006 (CDT)

  • I took the reference out, since it isn't a reference, and added a note to anyone editing to not put it back.--Someone Else 10:13, 12 April 2006 (CDT)
  • /me slaps forehead. that's so much better. --Evilkolbot 11:42, 12 April 2006 (CDT)
  • Why was Crystalline specially granted the trophy? Or do I not want to know? --Darth l33t 14:11, 5 December 2006 (CST)

Perhaps it should be noted that "Under the Knife" is now a once per day adventure. --SketchySolid 02:52, 31 December 2006 (CST)

Does ascending under a different gender count?

Nope. Sign your posts. --Silophant 10:05, 24 June 2007 (CDT)

The reason it's a Futurama reference is because Bender was a fighter under that name after it became apparent to him that robot wrestling was based on popularity and his popularity needed to go down. And the trophy image name is ladies and gentlemen as in "Ladies and gentlemen... The Gender Bender!" which I believe is an exact quote in that episode. --Antoids 23:06, 16 January 2008 (CST)

  • Whiiich was an existing phrase long before that episode came about, as ANJ has already stated up the page a bit. --TechSmurf 23:10, 16 January 2008 (CST)

I understand that. My point wasn't that Gender Bender alone was a reference. The two combined, however, are. --Antoids 23:38, 16 January 2008 (CST)

  • It's definitely not a reference to Futurama. "Ladies and Gentlemen" is a pun on the common phrase, and is used because the trophy has both male and female symbols. It makes perfect sense; "ladies and gentlemen" is like KoL-trophy-image-filename-speak for "men & women," which is a reference to (guess what) the trophy image! Not even close to a futurama reference. How do you come up with this stuff? Marshaul 06:22, 14 May 2008 (CDT)
