Possible reference? I think I remember seeing either an MST3K episode or a Twilight Zone episode about a demon-possessed cymbal-playing monkey. Every time the mokey would clap its cymbals, somebody else would die. Hence the evil description.

• AFAIK, the movie in that MST3K episode used footage from an older movie (The Devil's Gift) for the monkey bits, though I was under the impression that the cymbal-playing monkey here was directly inspired by a Stephen King short story. • With a little more research, they're actually both sorta right - the whole The Devil's Gift thing is correct, but said movie was a complete and total ripoff of Stephen King's "The Monkey." So it could really be based on either one, or both. However, the extreme creepy grin depicted in the KoL version of the evil, evil monkey seems to mimic the one of the Devil's Gift/Merlin's Shop monkey pretty closely.
