Talk:Combat Items

Great idea! I take it that the next step is to add some data values? --Gymnosophist 15:34, 9 November 2006 (CST)
- Perhaps, but before that I'd like to correct inaccuracies, confirm/discover nuances, and instill consistency on all appropriate pages. Some effects need confirmation, especially the monster and stun stuff, and some need an effect.--Dehstil (t|c) 16:50, 9 November 2006 (CST)
- True enough, but should that hold us back from putting in currently known data values? Things such as HP/MP restores are pretty well known. And if we set up the data values in the /data page, changes will auto-update. Hooray for /data pages! :) --Gymnosophist 17:49, 9 November 2006 (CST)
- Ok, plus monster level needs to be clarified against attack/defense. Also, I thought the consumption info etc idea was shot down. I guess it's fine by me adding the data to the page now though, if anyone is up to it.--Dehstil (t|c) 18:06, 9 November 2006 (CST)
- No, nothing was shot down. We were just in such a hurry to get started that we never got around to deciding what it was that we were actually planning on doing. I'll ask Quietust if his bot can add the additional combat effects data. --Gymnosophist 16:02, 10 November 2006 (CST)
- If you can give me a list of page names and field/value combinations you want added, it'll probably take me about a half hour to come up with a script to push the data in. QuietBot is quite simple in design - just 4 functions (login, loadpage, savepage, logout) and then custom code I write for whatever task I want it to perform (usually with just a few regular expressions applied to the entire article text whenever I want to remove or replace data). --Quietust (t|c) 16:58, 10 November 2006 (CST)
- I can compile all that - probably tomorrow. How shall I give you the data, and is there a preferred format? (posted to the Wiki? email attachment? delimited file?) Should it be something like: baseball, combat use outcome, 6-8 Damage? What do you think the best approach would be for something like the Dyspepsi grenade which has multiple effects? And something like the scroll of ancient forbidden unspeakable evil looks to be just about impossible to do justice to. --Gymnosophist 19:32, 10 November 2006 (CST)
Kittiwake's Stun/Delevel List:
7-Foot Dwarf Mattock = -8-16 per hit (NOT multipled by TS/LTS)

Barrrnacle = -1 ML every 4 Pounds, may not activate at start of battle.

--DirkDiggler 20:13, 10 November 2006 (CST)
- In that chart, what does it mean to be -ML vs. -Atk or -Def? Stat gain doesn't change, so does that mean -5ML actually means -5 Atk and Def or does it mean we're not sure and that it's -5 Atk and/or Def or something else?--Dehstil (t|c) 23:48, 10 November 2006 (CST)
- -ML means reduce both Atk and Def by the same given amount. -Atk means monster won't hit you any more, but you won't start hitting them with a weapon if you couldn't at the start. --DirkDiggler 03:50, 11 November 2006 (CST)
- My preferred data format would look something like this:
-----TITLE-----
disease/data
-----CONTENT-----
field1=value|
field2=value|
-----TITLE-----
plot hole/data
-----CONTENT-----
field1=value|
field2=value|
field3=value|
-----TITLE-----
etc.
...where the "content" would be inserted directly into the data page above the last line of the template (the "{{{2|}}}}}</includeonly><noinclude>{{item/meta}}</noinclude>") Also, may I ask exactly how this information will be incorporated into the item page? Fitting it into {{useitem}} would not be feasible due to the sheer number of different possible effects and message formats. An infobox-like template might work just to summarize the information. --Quietust (t|c) 21:56, 10 November 2006 (CST)
- That's a good question - I think I got ahead of myself and didn't think this through. I suppose we should add it to the list of stuff to talk about over at Discussion/Infoboxes. --Gymnosophist 21:15, 14 November 2006 (CST)
With additions like the hand grenegg and handful of bees and pufferfish spine, should we add a "Passive Damage" category? --Pastangum 15:31, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
