Talk:Brother Smothers's Blessing

From TheKolWiki

Adventuring in the Orcish Frat House, I got 12 adventures dropping booze out of 20. --Lietk12 19:16, 19 October 2007 (CDT)

  • That doesn't help. You'd have to note what +item drop effects/equipment/familiars you were using (preferably none). Then, you'd have to draw a table up of how many times you encountered EACH monster with this effect running, and note EACH drop. (e.g., 4 frat pledges encountered, 3 bottles of tequila and two frat paddles dropped.) Anything else is useless at best. --Deusnoctum 09:58, 20 October 2007 (CDT)
    • And in the time you make one of those tables, you could've had sex.--TW 01:47, 23 October 2007 (CDT)
      • ...you must be really fast in the sack, or really terrible at making tables. Maybe a little of both. ^__^ --Ricket 05:18, 23 October 2007 (CDT)

While I didn't get all the info above, here's some more extensive info that might help:

I had 40 turns of the blessing, and a bounty to do at The Goatlet. Perfect -- the Drunk Goat is the only booze dropper, and they only drop Bottles of Whiskey. In 40 turns, I encountered 14 Drunk Goats, and obtained 5 Bottles of Whiskey, giving a 35% chance to drop, +10% from the Drunk Goat's normal drop frequency.

My adventuring equipment: I'm a level 12 Disco Bandit, no equipment that increases item drop. My familiar is a 25lb Gluttonous Green Ghost, with an ant pick equipped.

With a general glance, it looks like it might increase booze drop percentage, but as any good scientist would say, more testing is required. Irix man 08:41, 24 October 2007 (CDT)

  • Aww crap! I swore I shrugged off my Phat Loot, but I didn't... nevermind on that info, it's as good as useless. I will save up a few turns of Smother's blessing and try again, pref. in an area with one monster that drops one booze. That would make it easier to get data, amirite? Irix man 08:44, 24 October 2007 (CDT)
    • It will not make it more difficult if there are more monsters that drop more boozes, the table will just be a bit bigger, but you get more reliable results. (oww, and think of your passive +itemdrop skill) --Mercantilia 09:14, 24 October 2007 (CDT)
      • Right, as a Disco Bandit who has Mad Looting Skillz my life becomes a bit more difficult. I'm very interested in testing this, though, so tell me if this would be a good way of approaching it:
Adventure in a high booze-drop area (Orcish Frat House) and chart the number of booze drops in a table, per monster. Since I have +20% items, subtract away 20% of drops per monster from that table. That should leave me with a table of booze drop percentages by monster, which I can compare to the expected drop percentages by monster.
That sound like a workable approach? Am I missing anything? Irix man 11:22, 24 October 2007 (CDT)
        • Remember, you get 120% of normal drops, so if you have 6 drops of an item, you normaly would have gain 5. (so 1 item drop counts as 100/120=5/6). Did you mean that by subtract away 20%? --Mercantilia 17:50, 24 October 2007 (CDT)
  • Alright, did 20 turns of testing with this at the Haunted Winecellar. 3 possible drops per adventure, with a drop rate of 20%. That means 60 possible booze, with an average of 12 with no boosters. Ran Mad Looting, Gnefarious Pickpocketing, and Phat Loot for an even 50% bonus. That means I can discount 6 of the wines that dropped. I recieved 22/60 wines, all included. Dropping 6 gives 16, which is an increase of 4 over the base drop rate. 4/12 is 1/3rd, so that points to 30% or 35% on this skill. Though, of course, this was only 20 turns of testing. This seems like the place to test though, a lot of booze drops at a known drop rate that's fairly noticeable already. --Wildfire393 00:59, 25 October 2007 (CDT)

Name Change

Following the October 22 Jick and Skully show, the name of this buff has been changed to Brother Smothers's Blessing, after someone pointed out the grammatical inconsistency. Someone should probably make this page redirect to a page with the proper (updated) spelling, as this is out of date. Why don't I do it? Because I don't know how. --Invariel 08:40, 4 November 2007 (CST)
