Erm, @ the references, the Silmarils never represented different elements. You might be thinking of the 3 rings, but the silmarils were just beauty and light.

Maybe not originally, but they have their ultimate resting places in the sky, the sea, and in the earth (or in fire, that is, lava); see Silmarils @ Wikipedia. Be that as it may, I still find that reference irksome. Come to think of it, even the wikipedia reference is irksome, as Tolkien rarely, if ever, uses the four-element paradigm... but that is neither here nor there. -- Wlerin
