Stat Gains from Fights

Here's a comprehensive list of everything in the game that increases how much you gain in stats after a fight. These items affect only monster encounters, and not other encounters. Because there are only a few items that do this, you may find it more effective to increase Monster Level too. Any fractional stat points you gain will vary randomly between the next integer and the last integer, depending on how close it is to either.

[edit] Familiars

Several familiars will also add to the stats at the end of a fight, depending on the weight of the familiar. Familiar equipment will, of course, increase the stat gains you get from these familiars.

The two primary stat gaining familiars are as follows:

Volleyball-Type 
The Blood-Faced Volleyball is probably the most commonly used, as it provides a straightforward number of extra stat points based on its weight. The Jill-O-Lantern, Spirit Hobo, Ancient Yuletide Troll, Penguin Goodfella, Cheshire Bat, Nervous Tick, Cymbal-Playing Monkey, and Hunchbacked Minion all award stats similarly.
In addition, the Pygmy Bugbear Shaman acts like a Volleyball 50% of the time (or all the time if you can feed it MP). The Wild Hare will also act like a Volleyball some of the time, as does the Mad Hatrack if properly equipped.
Hovering Sombrero 
The Hovering Sombrero awards additional stats based on its weight and the monster level at the end of combat.
Both 
The Crimbo P.R.E.S.S.I.E. will act as a volleyball, unless it has a metallic foil radar dish equipped. If it has the radar dish equipped, it will act as a sombrero.

When fighting monsters of increasing level, a Sombrero will eventually surpass a Volleyball of equal weight, in terms of effectiveness.

Other stat-gain familiars are:

Killer Bee 
The Killer Bee will award additional Muscle at the cost of an HP.
Former Mr. Store Familiars 
The Personal Raincloud occasionally awards additional stats at the end of the fight. The Wizard Action Figure acts as a combination Volleyball and Fairy (item drops), at 1/3 strength each.
