This shield lives up to its name, no matter which way you interpret it. It bears the likeness of a coiled snake on it, and it also serves as effective protection against volleys of catapult-launched snakes. The second interpretation is less useful, though, because it's pretty unlikely that anybody would ever launch snakes at you from a catapult.
