- The "infinite balance" failed attack message is a reference to the Tony Hawk series of videogames. The reference in the critical hit text for "breaking his combo" is from pretty much every skateboarding game in existance, most particularly the Tony Hawk series.
- The name of this monster also references Skater Gnome, a monk in the world of EverQuest. His stories are here.
- The swarm of bees in the fumble message is a reference to the classic skateboarding arcade game 720°, where the player would be attacked by a swarm of killer bees if s/he took too long in entering an event.
