This is a chunk of petrified time. How does time get petrified? Well, first you take some time. Then you let it pass for many, many years. Then when you come back, the time is so old that it has turned into stone!
This must've fallen out of one of the weird temporal rifts you've been seeing, and landed in your backpack.

- Petrified time is a reference to petrified wood, which is wood that has been left alone for some time. Eventually, all the wood has been replaced by minerals, turning it into a stone.
