- The character Sam McGee is a prospector who froze to death, and whose death is described in Robert W. Service's poem The Cremation of Sam McGee. Later, his companions attempt to cremate his body in a furnace; however, instead of burning his frozen body, the fire revives him, and he is quite comfortable in the intense heat.
- The name of this skill comes from the television show Northern Exposure, which aired 1990-1995 on CBS.
