- The quote "I am putting myself to the fullest possible use, Dave!" is from HAL 9000 of Arthur C. Clark's 2001 A Space Odyssey.
- The "slightly less advanced form of magic" description of the pogo stick is yet another reference to Arthur C. Clarke, who famously said that "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from Magic."
- The "His breath is flammable" phrase may be a reference to Yoshimitsu's attack in the Tekken 3 game, which involved puffing a cloud of violet smoke in the opponents face, causing him to fall down.
- The "Winners don't take things that don't belong to them!" line may be a reference to Yoshimitsu's membership in the Manji clan of ninjas, which were known for stealing from nobility and giving to the poor.
