Mutant Gila Monster

image:gilamonster.gif
This lizard don't lounge
it's a cold-blooded killer
all bite and no bark.

Ability: Restores HP and MP like a Ghuol Whelp; attacks opponents 50% of the time and dealing damage like a double-weight lime; does ongoing poison damage. The restore range and damage range are both multiplied by a factor that depends on the moon phases.

Combat Messages
  • Regular messages:
<Name> latches its powerful jaws onto him and begins pumpin' in the venom while dealing X damage.
  • At the end of combat:
<Name> slowly crawls up to you and licks your wounds with his flickering forked tongue.
    HPYou gain some hit points.
    MPYou gain some Mana points.

Arena Message

  • When entered in a scavenger hunt:
Gila monsters suck at scavenger hunts because their vision is based on movement. You know, like tyrannosaurs and prostitutes.

Notes

  • The multiplier for the restore range and combat damage is equal to 1.30–0.15*(grimace darkness).
    • Note that this multiplier is applied after you calculate the damage or restore range from the familiar's weight, not to the weight itself. This multiplier is in addition to the Gila Monster dealing damage like a lime at twice the weight.
  • If the gila monster has bitten an opponent, in subsequent rounds the opponent will suffer additional damage, with the message
Your opponent writhes as he takes X damage from the poison.
    • X is initially 80% of the damage dealt by the poisoning attack, rounded down. This damage is then halved (rounded down) in subsequent rounds, until the poison no longer deals damage.

References

  • The gila monster's weakness is a clear reference to Michael Crichton's work Jurassic Park, citing the fact that tyrannosaurs base their vision on movement.
  • The prostitute's vision is a reference to a similar scene in Family Guy, which is a double reference to the original work of Jurassic Park.
  • The maypole message plays on Bobby "Boris" Picket's novelty song Monster Mash.
  • The first line of the haiku is an obvious reference to the term "lounge lizards", referring to tacky lounge musicians.
