• "^H" is what you get when you press Backspace on a computer that doesn't use the Backspace key. So the ^H^H^H^H in the name of the second Puzzle contest represents Riff starting to type "Riddle", but then deleting the "Ridd" (or pretending to try to) and then typing "Puzzle" instead, indicating that it was no longer a Riddle contest.
• Frank Gorshin was an actor whose most notable role was as The Riddler in the 1960s TV series Batman.
