This is a single-shot gun with a flare loaded into it. The flare is made out of eight pieces of flare, and pirates sometimes use it to lead each other to the locations of pieces of eight.

- "Eight pieces of flare" references the movie, Office Space, in which Jennifer Aniston's boss freely admits that fifteen pieces of 'flair' (humorous buttons, badges and shinies) is the minimum, then continually chastises her for wearing exactly fifteen pieces of flair.
- "Pieces of eight" refers to the popular linkage of sea piracy with the Spanish dollar.
- An "Arrrr strike" is a pun for airstrike, which is often used for strategic bombing.
