In the time before running water, shampoo, and scissors, cavemen and womyn alike let their hair grow long and naturally clump together into tightly-compacted, heavy, slightly greasy tubes.

Modern hippies do this too, but they don't have any excuse. Anyway, this particular dread is almost six feet long, and makes a decent makeshift whip. Just don't touch it any more than you have to.
