• October 2005's special of the month from Mr. Store.
• Changes into almost any familiar, not just the ones you own. It will not change into the Comma Chameleon, Reassembled Blackbird or into itself.
• The Doppelshifter is sometimes a familiar of choice for PvPers as its +15 equipment can be advantageous in the "Familiar Weight" minigame.
• Due to White Wednesday, the Doppelshifter was in Mr. Store for over a month (closer to 40 days), making it the longest-running Mr. Store familiar as of September 2007.
• If all the right buffs and equipment are used, this familiar can have the second highest weight of any other familiar (behind the El Vibrato Megadrone) due to its +15 familiar weight equipment.
• Does give extra adventures when transformed into the Temporal Riftlet.
• Also does sometimes buff you when transformed into the Sweet Nutcracker.
• It can also give extra adventures as the Wild Hare.
• Can give toast when transformed into the Ninja Pirate Zombie Robot.
• Can give an astral mushroom when transformed into the Astral Badger.
• Can give disintegrating sheet music when transformed into the Ancient Yuletide Troll.
• If you give your Spirit Hobo booze and then use your Doppelshifter and it shifts into a hobo, it will attack and "use up" some of the Hobo's booze supply.
• When a Penguin Goodfella, will drop contracts and will react appropriately when one is used.
• Can give tiny bottles of absinthe when transformed into a Green Pixie.

• The name of this familiar is a combination of the words "doppelgänger" and "shapeshifter".
• The name also appears to be a play on the phrase "Doppler shift", another way of describing the Doppler effect.
• The doppelshifter has a lot in common with Red Dwarf's Polymorph, a genetically engineered shape-shifting creature that popped up in 2 episodes. The Polymorph frequently changed shape, imitating everyday objects and other members of the crew, and would "revert to an amorphous blob" in-between shape-changes.
