- The image name, "like a cucumber on pluto", refers to two different senses of "coolness":
- An early record of "cool as a cucumber" meaning calm and unruffled is from the 1732 John Gay poem, "A New Song of New Similies": "Pert as a pear-monger I’d be, / If Molly were but kind; / Cool as a cucumber could see / The rest of womankind."
- Pluto is a Kuiper belt object, demoted from its old status of "outermost planet", which has been recently observed to have a surface temperature of approximately 43 Kelvin (-382 deg F).
