- The consumption message is a probable reference to the age-old question "who will watch the watchers?" (Often in Latin: Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?)
- "It is... being all that domestic beer can be" may be a reference to old US Army recruiting advertisements, which exhorted the viewer to "Be all that you can be." Given that this beer is consumed almost exclusively by soldiers, the similarity in phrasing is probably intentional.
